What is the Missouri SMP
The Missouri Senior Medicare Patrol program (SMP) trains retired professionals to help Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries prevent, detect and report health care fraud. Missouri SMP volunteers
- work with individual beneficiaries to review Medicare Summary Notices for accuracy
- provide one-one counseling
- make presentations to groups about how to avoid getting taken by scam artists
- exhibit at community health fairs
The primary goal is to teach Medicare beneficiaries how to protect their personal identity, screen their healthcare statements for errors, and identify deceptive health care practices, such as illegal marketing, providing unnecessary or inappropriate services and charging for services that were never provided.
If you are a retired professional that is highly motivated to help older persons and are wanting significant and meaningful work with a positive impact to the community, contact the Missouri SMP Office at 888-515-6565 for more information.
The Missouri SMP is funded by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ and Administration on Aging
